Synod Assembly - An annual gathering of laity and associates in ministry, diaconal ministers, and pastors (rostered leaders) for renewal and decision making.

DYD - "Discerning Your Discipleship" is an ongoing school to train lay leaders in specific areas of ministry.

Synod Youth Events - Annual events for Elementary, Middle School and Senior High Youth.

Bishop's Convo - An annual gathering for pastors and lay rostered leaders of the synod consisting of learning, fellowship, worship and renewal.

    PREACHING PERSPECTIVES

    January 16, Gettysburg Campus; January 17, Philadelphia Campus

    Come, by yourself, bring a friend or attend as a pericope group (to enhance your work as a group), to a one-day lecture for anyone interested in thematic ideas, exegetical insights and preaching ideas for the coming liturgical season. There are 3 of these held during the academic year. The event will be held in Valentine Auditorium on the Gettysburg Campus and in Benbow Hall of the Brossman Center on the Philadelphia Campus from 9:00-3:00pm.

    The Rev. Dr. Kristin Largen will be presenting preaching ideas, themes, text insights and notable thoughts on texts for Ash Wednesday through Easter. Cost is $40 and includes lunch

    MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING

    February 7, Gettysburg Campus; February 26, Philadelphia Campus

    One in five adults will experience a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year. Even if you are not a trained mental health professional, you can be prepared and know what to do when a mental health crisis happens. Mental Health First Aid is a clinically proven training course that will help you identify, and respond to the signs of mental health difficulties and give you the skills to apply a 5 step action plan to assess a situation and provide help. Participants will receive a nationally recognized course certificate of completion, a Mental Health First Aid manual, listing of local mental health resources and Certification as a Mental Health First Aid Responder. The 8 hour course is offered by WellSpan Philhaven.

    This event will be held in Valentine Auditorium on the Gettysburg Campus and Benbow Hall of Brossman Center on the Philadelphia campus from 8:30-4:30pm. Cost is $40 and includes lunch.

    The Allegheny Synod would like to invite you and your members to attend a special event. The ELCA Women and Justice Taskforce has completed a draft social statement and is inviting our feedback. We’ve scheduled a reading of the draft for August 29 at 6:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Altoona.

  • Outreach/Evangelism Grant Opportunity

    Our Synod in assembly last year approved funds to underwrite grants for our congregations to develop outreach/evangelism ministries to their communities. These grants are to help you kick start this ministry or go beyond what your congregation may budget. Click here for a Microsoft Word fill-in application which describes the grant more fully.

    We will review the applications and issue grants on a monthly bases. We know we won’t be able to grant all the requests, but we will respond to all applications.
