What Do Mission Interpreters Do?

Mission Interpreters, volunteers from congregations in each Synod of the ELCA, go into local churches to tell the story of how our offerings and gifts are transformed into effective ministries.  They remind us of how we make a difference for Christ's mission and the work of the church, and they thank our people for their faithful giving.

This is primarily done through temple talks, visits with councils and committees, and helping in any way they are asked to share information, provide resources, and give guidance on doing God's work at congregational, synodical, and churchwide levels.

Mission Interpreters are trained on the various aspects of church ministry and mission and the tools and resources available to carry them out as a member of the ELCA.

Mission interpreters are not sent out to raise funds.  They are sent out to raise awareness of the ministries of the Church.

Congregations:  By receiving a vision for the work of the Church throughout the Synod and the ELCA--throughout the world.

Synods:  By having more mission-minded and informed congregations.

ELCA:  By sharing its story with those who can learn, act upon, and support its mission for Christ in the world.

Are You Willing to Serve?

Christ's command to go into all the world and preach the Good News is meant for more than missionaries to faraway lands.  It is meant for all the people in Christ's Church.

Your congregation,  the Allegheny Synod, and the ELCA have done mighty works in the name of Christ.  Now it is the job of all of us to spread that news, to tell what Christ has done among us, and to encourage others to continue the ministry.

As a Mission Interpreter, you will learn about the various aspects of ministry in our church and how to spread that Good News throughout our Synod.

Would Your Congregation Like to Take Advantage of This Program?

To have a Mission Interpreter come to your congregation to make a presentation about the ministries of the Church, please call the Allegheny Synod office at 814-942-1042.

Women's groups, men's groups, councils, committees, Sunday School classes, and church social functions are great times to have a Mission Interpreter speak to your congregation.  Temple talks before services and special evening presentations can be done.

When God's people hear about the ministry carried out in our area, our synod, and around the world, they become inspired, encouraged, and want to do more.

Good stewardship is making use of our time, talents, and treasures to bring the Gospel to those both near and far.  Mission Interpreters help to bridge that gap and help us see God's mission as a unifying gift among all believers.

Learn about the Church and Share the Good News

Working together as Mission Interpreters in our congregations, our Synods, and the ELCA, we can make the work of Christ known.

Would you like to be part of our team?  Please pray about this opportunity to share the Good News with those in our area.

Make a difference in the life of the Church.
Make a difference in the life of people.
Make a difference in the world.

To become a Mission Interpreter, please call the Allegheny Synod office at 1-814-942-1042.
